Make no mistakes men have dug that well. In 1997 I asked and answered Why is Feminism So Hard to Resist?: because we are all feminized. Not in the good way that Chesterton said all men are by virtue of being born of women. The mother child reunion may be only a motion away as St. Paul, Simon that is, sang, but the union starts at conception. Ask any honest women, Christian or no, and she will say she has some sort of relationship with that unborn person.
Men helped dig the well of feminism, actually they willing gave the women the tools to dig it. Aggressiveness, assertiveness, might makes right, and the devil take the hindmost all come from fallen men. The first well dug by the feminist was that of interchangeability between men and women. People still partake of this well with straws provided by media, men, and modernity. But it’s tough to do for long. You choke on the bitterness, foulness, and just plain obvious fact that men and women are no more interchangeable than male and female connections in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing applications.
So, another well was provided. This was egalitarianism. No, men and women are not interchangeable, but they are equal in every way, but this only happens by some sort of force. As a 1993 writer puts it, “’Democracy demands that all of its citizens begin the same race even. Egalitarianism insists that they all finish even’” (Williams, Henry, In Defense of Elitism, 31-2). So we have Title IX athletics in college, different standards for military physical fitness for men and women, and women, though more than half the population, are given minority status and thereby preferential treatment in business, contracts, jobs, scholarships.
Most women in Confessional Lutheran circles don’t consider themselves feminist, and they are not drinking directly with the straw of interchangeability. But they are drinking with the egalitarian straw, and both straws tap the same well. If you want to expose this to them, just ask, “What do you think of patriarchy?” They will be at war with this concept. They will believe though God made Adam first, placed him as head of home, church, and state in Scripture that is all descriptive not proscriptive. St. Paul, the real one, disagrees.
Taylor Caldwell, a Catholic writer (Don’t bother with her works about Biblical people. I found them thin and stretched.), wrote the 1952 book The Devil’s Advocate. I bought it in 1982 at garage sale for .10. In 1972, she wrote Captains and Kings. In the Great Book Purge at retirement that book went missing. She wrote something real profound in the introduction along the lines of this blog.
In The Devil’s Advocate (Remember written in 1952.) the male protagonist in the totalitarian state that the United States has become is thinking about his faithful, Christian wife’s tenderness with their children. “He had wondered about that large percentage of women in the war plants who bore their children indifferently, and abandoned them with the actual eagerness to the hands of others.” [Can you say infant day care?]
Caldwell goes on without break: “He had studied these women in the factories, and he then had had the answer. Almost uniformly, they were of certain type, with large hard bodies, coarse-grained skins, rough loud voices and pulpy features, striding about in their big thick shoes and workmen’s blue overalls and shirts. They were brutes, with the anatomical outlines of the female figure, but with nothing else to distinguish them from men.” [This describes the women in the U.S. Army that I went into in 1975 before the dual standards for physical fitness were introduced in the ’80s.]
The protagonist’s later explains: “’It happened in Germany, Russia, and America, this emergence of strong physical masculinity in a percentage of the women. It was another sex. The women preferred working in masculine trades, and rushed to the factories, first voluntarily for a long time, and then by conscription, which they didn’t mind at all. It was the beginning of the era of the degradation of womanhood. Perhaps the emergence of this masculinized sex created that degradation or vice versa. [PRH: Men are the root cause. Fallen men prefer woman as oversexed, brutalized, and causal about sex as they are.] It’s something one can’t tell, but it’s a fact that when this kind of woman emerged, Communism made great advances. The Church tried to do something about it [PRH: Lutherans sure have not.], by urging women to remain with their children. But it was no use, with that breed of creature. They had no maternal instincts. First the factories, and then the armies – and they liked it. It was necessary to them. They are the monsters bred out of Communism, and recreating it” (175-6).
If you’re a Gen-Xer or later, you think that Communism (i.e. the totalitarian state) was a Cold War boogie man. You know of Hollywood blacklisting, McCarthy’s hearings, the Domino Theory, and how all these came from or led to the tragedy of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
In the second book on my parent’s bookshelf which I had wanted to read since childhood, Peking and Moscow, I have now read with interest that both Red states believe the path to Communism begins with Capitalism, moves gradually into Socialism, and finally embraces Communism. This is the plan, and they know it takes decades. We’re at stage two. Having adopted the Communist understanding of materialism [it rules] and the sexes [to make any distinctions is sexist] we are fast producing the mothers of the totalitarian state.
Read the novel It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis. Or start with the nonfiction work None Dare Call It Treason. But read; don’t surf the internet like a Beach Boy, don’t follow someone else like the Beatles followed Maharishi Yogi . Don’t binge watch Netflix which is far more unhealthy than binge eating or drinking for that matter. Read don’t watch; don’t listen. Read…while books are still available. And allowed. Fahrenheit 451 is not fiction but prediction.
